SmoothFox's Cool Smiley Face Square 7x7 - Free Pattern

Above picture created by SmoothFox

The picture directly above and original idea for the smiley face is courtesy of Loren G. aka Twisted1 from Ravelry. She took my Peace Out pattern and changed a few things and wow… came up with the Smiley Face above. She did an awesome job and I think it’s just the cutest square. Working with her notes I got down to business creating the pattern for everyone to enjoy! Thanks a million Loren!!!

Tambouring also known as slip stitch surface crochet: The tambouring method used for the smiley face is quite simple. Here is a link to a tutorial http://www.geocities.com/mwillsondesigns/SlipStitch/slipstitch.html
1. Hold the yarn you'll be using in the back of the piece. Insert hook in given sp between stitches. 2. Yarn over and draw loop through to the front side. (Be sure to leave about a 6" tail on the back to weave in later)
3. Insert hook in next space.
4. Draw this new loop through the loop that is already on the hook-just like working a slip stitch.
5. When you are ready to finish off, cut the yarn in back leaving a 6" tail to weave in. Then, pull the tail on up to the front. Now, insert hook from back to front and pull the tail to the back (wrong) side of your work. Weave in ends.

Little Toes

Here's another cool idea for helping a charity with some awesome ideas. One of the followers of this blog.... CrochetChris has this to say:

Hi, I was reading on your blog, (great blog by the way!) And I wanted to let you know of a great group I belong to, Little Toes. We are always looking for squares to put together for blankets for the children.

Thank you!

Here is her email address so you can contact her directly:
sharonteague@charter.net

Here's some information from the charity itself and a link to their blog:

We are a yahoo group dedicated to donate hand made items (blankets, hats, booties, toys, etc!). We donate every four months to hospitals all over the U.S and Canada. We believe in the power that hides behind giving just out of love. If you think you can join a great cause, please feel free to visit us at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Happy_Little_Toes/. We are starting our 5th projects and we receive new members with open arms!

It looks like they change where they donate items to each month. What a wonderful idea. I hope some of you will consider donating to another great cause. As always, don't forget to send me some pictures of squares, blankets etc. that you send to this charity.

Angel Stitchers

Here's another wonderful idea for helping a charity with great causes. One of the followers of this blog.... Cynthia has this to say:

I run a charity called the Angel Stitchers. We have not established a web site yet....it's on the list of things to do! We crochet and knit items for agencies such as Pregnancy Centers, Homeless Shelters, Cancer Centers, Red Cross, and Salvation Army. The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is our current project. We will accept anything, yarn...any length from 3 ft to 3000 ft...baby items, afghans, any handmade clothes--such as vest, ponchos, sweaters, purses/totes, jewelry or anything else they can think of. All most ALL of the people we donate to have NOTHING and the reservation is still in the winter months and people are dying from exposure daily.

We would really appreciate anything you would consider helping us with. Please e-mail me before sending anything. cklocke@carolina.rr.com Be blessed......Cynthia

UPDATE: They also accept 6" x 6" and 12" x 12" squares. I'm sure some of you have a few extra squares to donate to a great cause. Please send pictures to me of any squares or items you make that you will donate to this wonderful charity so I can post them on the blog.

Close Knit Hugs

One of the followers on this blog Kadezmom has suggested the following charity. Here's a small bit of information about Close Knit Hugs

Close Knit Hugs came about due to many people's horror and helplessness during the Hurricane Katrina and Rita disasters in the United States. Watching people pick through wreckage for one small memento of their lives and family histories, we felt their sense of loss and also wondered how "new heirlooms " might be created.

Here's the link http://k2.kirtland.cc.mi.us/~tatumm/

Send me pictures of any squares or items you send in.

The Woven Lotus

One of the followers on this blog branwyn aka madhouse mauly has suggested the following charity. Here's a small bit of information about The Woven Lotus - (click on the link below for more information)

We work with local rape crisis centers, hospitals, behavioral health facilities, and counseling centers to supply scarves, shawls and lapghans to give to victims of sexual violence. If you can knit, crochet, or sew a shawl, scarf, lapghan, or individual squares we need you! The victims need you. If you have any supplies you would like to donate (yarn, fabrics) we would love to receive them.

Here is the link: http://wovenlotus.info/

Remember if you donate items - please send me pictures so I can post them here on the blog. SmoothFoxLover@yahoo.com

Crochet for Charity.......Anyone?

Do you know a hospital, charity, church or a specific cause that needs crocheted items sent to them? Do you know a group that would like our crocheted squares that we have no use for?

If you do, please email me a paragraph or two and be sure to include:

1. Exactly what they need or accept.

2. Link to the charity.

3. Mailing address for the charity.

4. Contact person, email address and telephone number at the charity if at all possible.

I'm going to create a list of charities and hopefully some of you wonderful people will donate a square or two or possibly a blanket for a worthy cause.

If you decide to donate to the charities, please send me a picture of your squares or your blankets. I'll post them on the blog.

Remember charity begin's within.
