SmoothFox's Easy as ABC - Free Pattern

Red Heart Super Saver 4 ply medium worsted
Color A: Dark Orchid
Color B: Light Blue

Hook Size: J/10 6.0 MM
Square Size: 7” x 7”

Special Stitches:
Spike Stitch: Working in back of ch-sp, long tr in indicated stitch below.
V-Stitch: (dc, ch 2, dc) in indicated corner.

Instructions:

Using color A, ch 4 and; join to make a ring or use the Magic Adjustable Ring (see www.crochetpatterncentral.com under tutorials).

Round 1: In ring ch 3 (counts as dc), 9 dc’s in ring; join with sl st to top of beg ch-3 with a slip st. (10 dc)

Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, *2 dc in each st around; join to top of beg ch 3 with a slip st. (20 dc)

Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 dc’s in next st, ch 2, sk 1 st, *(2 dc in next st, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, ch 2, sk 1 st) 3 total times; join with slip st in top of beg ch-3. (16 dc, 16 hdc)

Round 4: Ch 3, dc in next 2 sts, ch 2, sk 2 sts, dc in next 3 sts, *(ch 2, V-st, ch 2) in the ch-2 corner, **(dc in next 3 sts, ch 2, sk 2 sts, dc in next 3 sts,* repeat from * to * 2 times and from * to ** once; join with slip st in top of beg ch-3. Finish off. (32 dc)

Round 5: Join color B with a slip st in any V-st corner, ch 3, (2dc, ch 2, 3 dc), *dc in next ch-2 sp, dc in next 3 sts, working behind ch-2 sp - spike st in next 2 sts below, dc in next 3 sts, dc in next ch-2 sp, **(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the V-st corner,* repeat from * to * 2 times and from * to ** once; join with slip st in top of beg ch-3. Finish off. (8 tr, 56 dc)

Round 6: Join color A with a slip st in any corner, ch 3, (2dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner, *sk 1 st, dc in next 6 sts, 2 spike sts in un-used ch-2 sp below, sk 2 sts behind the spike stitches just created, dc in next 6 sts, sk last st, ** (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner,* repeat from * to * 2 times and from * to ** once; join with slip st in top of beg ch-3. Finish off. (8 tr, 72 dc)
