Nadine's Afghan

Thanks for sharing this picture of your afghan Nadine. I can definately see some patterns of squares that I created. Great job!

I'd love to hear from those of you who are making scarves or afghans from patterns I've created. Feel free to email me and send in those pictures.

I'm taking a vacation for a short period from crocheting to try to learn how to knit. I know that I'll get frustrated very shortly with my knitting skill level and will go back to crocheting. Knitting is so slow for me LOL that I know I'll get back to crocheting rather quickly.

Happy Crocheting my friends!

Linie and Ironstone Christmas Hats

I am very new to knitting and last year I sat with Lyndsay my niece in Texas and learned how to knit a hat. I went to my first "yarn" store, "The Woolie Ewe" in Plano Texas and had freaked out about all the wonderful yarn that I had access to.

The hat above was made with Linie 195 Candida which I was told is a German yarn . I wasn't happy with it because by looking at the outside of the small 50g ball, you couldn't see the black stripe that was in the middle of the hat. All I saw was the purplish color. I had no idea there would be orange and black in it. That taught me to look further inside the balls of yarn if I ever go back to another yarn store.

On that same trip to the yarn store, I purchased some Ironstone colorway 180 and the yarn was made in Italy. The pattern didn't state what size yarn needles to use so I used the only needles I had which were circular 16" Nbr 10 6mm. Here is the pattern link http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/hatgarter.htm

I have to laugh when I look at the picture above because I have this tiny 4 ft tree and laid the hat at the top of it and took this picture. I made this hat thinking that I needed to fit a large head and just figured it was my imagination that it was as big as it turned out. When I put it on it fits loosely, not tight and I love it. My husband thinks that it should be tighter so the next time I attempt the pattern I hope I have a smaller set of circular needles.

I have about 5 more 50g 100 yard balls of this colorway so I'll figure some more items I'm going to make. Maybe another hat.

So whats on your needles or hooks right now?

Testers Found - Fox's Flower Petal Doily

UPDATE: TESTERS ARE - CARMEN, LORA, CRISTAL, MELANI, JEWEL, CAPRICE, RHONDA, BARBARA, JOAN

I created this yarn doily this past spring and completely forgot to put it out there for testing. It will fit very nicely on a round end table or night stand. It's approximately 20" across and really quite pretty.

Testing for this pattern must be done with yarn, not thread and you can use whatever 3 different colors you'd like. This pattern is not for a beginner to crocheting. It is more of the an Intermediate level so please don't ask to test it if you are a beginner.

If you'd like to test, please send me your FOLLOWER name and read below:

1. You must be willing to send me a picture of your completed doily as an attachment in an email.

2. Send me error's or corrections in emails as you find them.

3. Must be an intermediate crocheter.

4. Complete the project by December 11th and send me revisions and your picture by then.

Testers Found - Christmas Mitten and Peace Sign

UPDATE: TESTERS ARE SANDRA, CAPRICE, MISTI, TARA, DOTTIE

TESTERS ARE: MELANE, NORMA, MARIE, SANDRA, JEWEL

Once again, testers are wanted for 2 more Christmas patterns. You can use whatever colors of yarn you want to test the patterns.

So now we have the:

Christmas tree
Candy Cane
Christmas Wreath
Christmas Bell
Chrstmas Heart
Christmas Mitten
Christmas Peace Sign

Just a few more to go after this and it would be a cool Christmas afghan. I'd prefer not to send both patterns to any one tester so that we give other's a chance to be a tester. Of course, if I don't get enough people to test the patterns, you can always ask to test the other pattern.

1. Must be a follower.

2. Must be able to finish testing by Wednesday night.

3. Must be able to send me a picture of your finished square attached to an email.

4. Must be able to send me errors of any kind you find in the pattern.

So if you want to test, send me an email to the address below with your Follower name.

Backloop Scarf - Free Pattern

SCARVES FOR SENIORS PROJECT
A good friend of mine works at a rest home in Massachusetts and he has started a project called "Scarves for Seniors." One of my favorite patterns is just a simple scarf that I know is so simple it can't be claimed as an original pattern so I make no claims to it being my pattern. I'll just type up the pattern below for those who might be interested in using it.

Please crochet or knit a scarf (use whatever pattern you'd like) for a less fortunate, deserving senior citizen, many of whom will have no one and receive nothing for the holidays. When your scarf is complete, email Lee at Distinctives123@verizon.net for the address. He works the night shift and will sort the scarves into male and female scarves and pass them out. Let's bring some cheer to others in need this year.

UPDATE: LEE WROTE ME THE FOLLOWING:

I am not looking for any certain colors or patterns only that the scarf be long and wide enough for resident to double over ( it gets very windy). IF the person making the scarf felt led to include a little note to resident that is also welcomed as they do not get much mail. Also include their email addy so I can email that scarf arrived and thank them too. Like I had said after I will sit with residents and help to write out thank you notes - residents will enjoy this! Thanks Donna. I will keep you informed of how it is going.

SO sad that these people have no one. We have 22 residents - will be getting a new lady tomorrow she is 95. Only three of them have family that call or come by and then not often enough. The home can hold up to 29. My mailing address is:

Lee Imbriani / 5 Daniels Hgts #8/ Fitchburg, MA 01420

Thanks again, Lee

Testers Found - Christmas Bell and Wreath squares

UPDATE TESTERS ARE: JOAN, MISTI, MARION, MARIE, DOTTIE, AURORA

UPDATE TESTERS ARE: AURORA, CAPRICE, SANDY, TARA

I've been so busy I completely forgot I have some more Christmas square patterns finished and ready for testing. I figure with the Christmas tree and the Candy Cane pattern that was posted a while back, these two patterns and a few other's I'm working on, it would be a cool Christmas afghan. I'd prefer not to send both patterns at once to a tester. Test one then request the other and if I don't have enough testers, I'll send the second pattern.

1. Must be a follower.

2. Must be able to finish testing by Wednesday night.

3. Must be able to send me a picture of your finished square attached to an email.

4. Must be able to send me errors of any kind you find in the pattern.

IF YOU CROCHET THIS ITEM - PLEASE CLICK ON THIS LINK AND ADD YOUR OWN PICTURES AS A PROJECT ON RAVELRY.
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/free-smoothfoxs-beads--ripple-skinny-scarf---free-pattern

JUST CLICK ON THE CROCHET HOOK WITH THE WORDS “HOOK IT” NEAR THE TOP RIGHT SIDE AND THIS WILL ADD YOUR ITEM AS A PROJECT. THEN YOU CAN ADD THE PICTURES WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR PROJECT.

HELPFUL HINT: I used transparent beads so this required that I use a white or off white color of yarn. I don’t suggest using transparent beads with a colored yarn.

When working with beads, they get very heavy on your strand of yarn and can become very awkward until they are all used within the piece you are crocheting. I put approximately 100 beads on the strand before I began crocheting. You can put half that amount and work the scarf until you run out of beads, cut yarn and finish off the tail, then add the remaining 50 beads to the fresh yarn end and begin crocheting where you left off. Make sure you always skip the first stitch on the edge of each row. I wouldn’t suggest cutting the yarn and adding the remaining beads UNLESS when you tie the two pieces of yarn together, your beads can slide over the knot.

When your un-used string of beads get close to the scarf, pull more yarn from your skein and slide the string away from the piece you are crocheting.

Instructions:

THREAD ONTO YOUR YARN 2 BEADS FOR EACH ROW THAT YOU WANT BEADS ON. BEAD STITCHES ARE WORKED ON WRONG SIDE OF SCARF SO THEY WILL APPEAR ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SCARF.

Row 1: RS: Ch 15, turn, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 5 ch, sk 1 st, ch 2, dc in last 6 sts. (12 dc)

Row 2: WS: Turn, sl st into next st, ch 3, dc in next st, Bead-dc in next st [see special instructions], dc in next 2 sts, small shell in ch-2 st, dc in next 2 sts, Bead-dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, sk last st. (12 dc)

Row 3: RS: Turn, sl st into next st, ch 3, dc in next 4 sts, small shell in ch-2 st, dc in next 5 sts, sk last st. (12 dc)

Repeat rows 2 and 3 for the length of the scarf.

Today, the person it kicked back on was Michelle Robinson. So if you are Michelle Robinson, or anyone who requested the pattern but haven't received it, please email me again with an alternative email address.

Christine D's Peace Out Afghan for Renee

UPDATE: I had requests to know what the yarns were. Yarns used were: Redheart kids Cruise Blue. Red Heart Kids Bikini and Red Heart Super Saver Black. Thanks for that info Christine!

About a month or so ago, I received the letter below from Christine D. aka Wyldbutterfly. She had just purchased the Peace Out pattern. Above is a picture of her completed afghan she sent me today. You did a great job Christine. It's groovy!

I just wanted to thank you for creating this pattern. I've been looking all over the stores for a peace sign pattern and couldn't find any. I decided to come home and check on line and came across a link and picture of your pattern. I was completely ecstatic as I am not good at creating patterns.I really needed this pattern as when I am finished making the afghan it is being donated to a very worthy cause.

On June 8th of this year a friend of mines daughter was brutally murdered while working. She was beaten to death by two teenagers in the group home she worked for. Anyone who knew Renee, knew that she absolutely loved peace signs, tie died, karaoke, dolphins and so much more. The afghan will be raffled off at an event they are having in her honor on what would have been her 25'th birthday. All monies collected will go towards a scholarship fund to a local student who will be going into the human services field. Once again thank you so much for creating this pattern.

If you feel like it you can go to http://www.reneegreco.com/ That is a web site about Renee and her benefit. Thank you once again for your wonderful pattern.

Please go check out the web-site she mentions above. I wish I could have known Renee. Such a tragic thing to happen to a great person.

Testers Found - Christmas Tree and Candy Cane -squares 8x8

UPDATE: Tester's so far are Molly, Barbara, Aurora, Sandra, Beverly and Caprice.

I've been busy trying to get a few Christmas square patterns together. The pictures make them look different sizes but they are the same size. I figure with the heart that was posted a few days ago, these two patterns and a few other's I'm working on, it would be a cool Christmas afghan. If you want to test both or just one of these two patterns, read below.

1. Must be a follower.

2. Must be able to finish testing by Wednesday night.

3. Must be able to send me a picture of your finished square attached to an email.

4. Must be able to send me errors of any kind you find in the pattern.

So if you want to test, send me an email to the address below with your Follower name.

Testers Found - Foxs Peace Symbol 12 x 12

Donald Bruce "Brucey" Mason - DOD 1969

UPDATE: TESTERS SO FAR ARE CAPRICE, JESSICA, BARBARA, LUANA, JEREE

I created this pattern with a square done in my least favorite color. Grey. It's the cancer awareness color for brain cancer. Most people know someone who has lost their life, or is going through cancer treatment or is a survivor of cancer.

The picture above is of my brother, Donald Bruce Mason who we called Brucey, who passed away when he was 10 years old from a brain tumor at Travis Air Force Base in California. I was 12 years old at the time and only remember bits and pieces of the tragic 2 years that he suffered. My parents were really good at hiding things from us other than when he had his first surgery to try to remove the tumor. We children were told that they had gotten all of it. Little did I know, it was a lie that parents do to protect the young minds of the other kids. Within 2 years, Brucey had passed away. At the time we were told that he was one of the youngest people to have ever gotten his type of brain tumor or his type of cancer. To this day, I have no idea exactly what kind of tumor or cancer it was.

This pattern is offered to a few testers who are "FOLLOWERS" just to work out the errors. After that, it will only be available to people who send me an email requesting the pattern but who promise to make and mail a square to me so that I can make some charity afghans for different charity organizations. If however you make a complete afghan that you are donating to a charity, I'd appreciate a picture and a square mailed to me. I'll post them within this posting or in a fresh one of everyone's blankets.
So if you want to be a tester, please read below

1. Must be a FOLLOWER. Send me an email with your FOLLOWER name.

2. You must agree to email me any errors you find in the pattern as you find them.

3. You must agree to send me a picture of your completed square laid out nice and flat with all ends weaved in..

4. Use whatever color of yarn you'd like but please check this web-site for all the colors and what they signify. http://www.trinitylondon.com/awareness-ribbon-meanings.asp One of them might jump out at you.

5. If any testers want to test the pattern AND send me a square let me know that you will be sending a square so I can give instructions about the border edging color. Some of you know that I'm almost blind and it is very difficult for me to sew blankets together unless they have a light colored edging.

Thanks for listening,

TESTERS FOUND for two 12 x 12 squares

UPDATE: TESTERS FOUND

Testers Top Square: Carmen, Jeree, Jessica, Meg, Luana, Carol, Caprice, Lacey

Testers Bottom Square: Debby, Christine, Molly, Vims, Jessica, Charlene, Sandra

I've got two patterns ready to be tested. Don't be afraid to volunteer to test the squares. I had several emails from people who thought you have to be super experienced, or have to have tested for someone before. That's not the case. Just be willing to read the pattern, find errors and as you find the errors (if any) you email me the errors so I can correct it before I send the pattern out to the next tester.

The pictures above show two squares. Neither square was laid out very well when I took the pictures but as you can see if you look closely, the square on the top has Pink, light pink and white. I think it would look prettier if it was worked in the reverse order of colors than I worked it but you can use white and two shades of yellow or two shades of purple or whatever, it's up to you. The square on the bottom started out with me creating another ripple pattern but I thought why not make a ripple flower square or a ripple square. I don't think either one would look very good in a varigated yarn though.

If you are a FOLLOWER and would like to test, email me your FOLLOWER name and make sure you read the information below.

1. You must be able to complete testing by Sunday night.

2. You can only test one of the squares at a time. If you want to test both patterns, that's great but only request one at a time. After sending me the completed info I requested on the completed square, I'll send you the second pattern to test if you'd like.

3. You must be able to send me any errors in the pattern or stitch counts you may find.

4. You must be able to send me an attached picture of your completed square laid out nicely with all ends tucked in.
5. Oh and one more thing, you must know how to crochet and have fun. LOL!!!!!
Thanks,

Testers FOUND - Round Ripple 12 to 24 Point

TESTERS FOUND - THANK YOU TO KARIN, DENISE, RHONDA, CAROLINE, JANICE AND STACEY FOR VOLUNTEERING TO BE PATTERN TESTERS.

DON'T BE DISAPPOINTED IF YOU MISSED OUT. I'VE GOT MORE PATTERNS ALMOST READY AND WILL POST THEM OPEN FOR TESTING SOON.

Any followers up for testing a Round Ripple??? I'd like about 5 Followers who would like to test the pattern. Hopefully someone who is unfamiliar with making a round ripple will want to try it. If you're like me, you can do a round ripple in your sleep and I don't want someone wanting to test who is like me in that sense. You will end up working the pattern without reading it carefully enough so you might miss pattern errors. However, if you're interested, read on and then email me at SmoothFoxLover@yahoo.com

1. Be willing to complete the project before July 20th.

2. Be willing to email me any pattern corrections and verify round stitch counts.

3. Be willing to email me a picture of your completed afghan.

4. Blanket requires two entire skeins of yarn, each must be 7 ounce's with 355 yards of medium 4ply yarn.

5. Only someone looking for a project to start this weekend and who plans to complete the afghan pattern entirely need respond. You can add additional rounds to make it larger but I need to make sure that the pattern is accurate.

Thanks,

Donna

Suggestions and ideas needed

UPDATE:

I RECEIVED ABOUT 15 REPLIES WITH SOME GREAT ADVICE. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR INPUT. I'VE FORWARDED THE EMAILS ONTO BRIDGET. RIGHT NOW SHE IS IN THE "I'M DEFEATED MODE." I'M HOPING SHE TAKES ALL OF THIS ADVICE AND GETS BUSY ACTUALLY TAKING THE INITIATIVE. SHE IS GETTING A 2ND OPINION ON THE 20TH. HOPEFULLY SHE GETS GOOD NEWS.

DONNA

Please put on your thinking caps and don't be embarrassed to pitch in with ideas, suggestions or any knowledge you might be able to give us. I know that some of you out there must have dealt with the situation I'm getting ready to ask about. Any and all information that you think would be helpful is appreciated. Some of you may have already gone through what she is getting ready to go through. Neither my friend nor I have had any dealings with social or state agencies that can help with short term care that is needed. She lives here in Northern Kentucky in the area of Ft. Thomas. I wish I could remember exactly which city it is. I do know it is in Kenton County Kentucky.

My friend Bridget has already had one knee replaced years ago when she was married. Now she is single, lives far enough away from me that I wouldn't be much help though. Anyway, she is having the other knee replaced in about a month. She is mid-40's and lives alone with her elderly dog. Her finances are horrible so when you're thinking about advice to help with this situation, please keep that in mind.

1. When she has her knee replaced, she has no one to care for her elderly dog during her hospital and rehabilitation hospital stay. She will be in the hospital about 5 days then in a rehab faclity about a week. So to be on the safe side I'd say it would be 2 weeks away from home. I can't volunteer my place because of my own 2 terriers who haven't been socialized enough to have manners and don't always play well with other dogs.

2. When she get's home, she has no one to bring her meal's for a short time.

3. She has no one to assist with transportation to and from doctor visits, grocery shopping, medication refills etc. She's had the worst luck lately. She had a very small gas efficient car and the engine blew. From the divorce she was given a very old and very large diesel truck that had been sitting for years that she's been driving lately and it has mechanical problems starting. So everytime she wants to go somewhere she has to put a large container next to the tire and stand on top of the container and do something to the wires in the truck engine to get it to start. Then she has to climb up and into the very high diesel truck. She defnately needs input on assistance in transportation to the doctor, grocery or whatever other errands that someone might need while doing rehablitation.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. You can make comments or emal me suggestions that I can pass on to her as she prepares for the surgery.

Thanks,

Donna SmoothFoxLover@yahoo.com

Thanks to two Special Ladies

Loren G aka Twisted1 worked up this double sided Hippy Bag. I think it's groovy! She used my Fox's 12x12 Peace Granny and altered the Free Pattern on this blog of the Smiley Face to be a 12x12. Loren is certainly one talented lady! Thanks for letting me share.

Fox's Hearts All Around

Fox's I Love You Hearts

I saw on Ravelry that Jessica G. aka Jessika on Ravelry had made some of my square patterns using Christmas colors and I thought they turned out so great. She used the Fox's I Love You Hearts and the Fox's Hearts All Around. She has also tested more patterns than I can remember for me and is a very special lady. Thanks for letting me show off your work Jessica.

Jessica also did a square in what I call Autumn colors.
