SmoothFox's - YouTube Video - Off The Top Of My Head

I have a new handheld camcorder.  I still don't know how to use it other than to press the record button.  Today I decided that I've got to learn how to use this and what better way to do that than to sit down with yarn and just create something off the top of my head.  Hence the name of this pattern.

I can tell you honestly that I had no idea what I was going to crochet.  I had crocheted like 18 ch's and did some dc's across when I turned on the video camera.  I seriously hope that I don't get a bunch of bad comments on the video.  I'd love to see a lot of comments and hopefully they are positive.  Hopefully.

Please subscribe to my video's if you'd like.  I see the YouTube has some kind of a drop down that you can click that you want to be notified by email when new video's come out.

I've been uploading the 2 part video for the past hour or so to YouTube.  I never knew it took so long to upload a video of any length to YouTube.  Once they are uploaded it takes them awhile to do the processing so I'll give you the links and you can keep checking back to see if you can be the first to view the video.

So, what you need to do is grab some yarn, a size H - 8 - 5.00 mm hook and crochet along with me in the video's.

I'm still in the process of writing the pattern and getting it up on Ravelry.

Day two of my vacation

Tuesday- Day two of my vacation:

I created a chart using Excel for a skull and decided I would try super hard to try to get my tension the same when using both hands to knit.  I designed it thinking I could put two sets of skulls across the hat but apparently I did too much of the stripes plus I used a fluffy yarn.

I work for the Public Defenders office and I designed this hat with a special Attorney in mind who I call the Devil's Pawn sometimesHe really is a cool Attorney who always has me in stitches laughing but he has a dark side sometimes when he comes back from court.  He'll walk past me and sorta growl because of the hard day he's had. I call the hat Skull Hat For A Cool Guy.  The more I stare at those skulls all I needed to do was put two horns on each skull and it would definately have been the devil.

I wasn't sure how many stitches around a hat for a man should be.  This hat is going to be a tight squeeze for him.  If he can't wear it, I'll give it to a teenage kid son of one of my co-workers who will love it I'll bet.

I learned the following:

1. Each of my hands knits with a different tension.

2.  I can design a chart that can be used to knit a hat.

3. I have never used alternating colors when doing the decreases in the top of a hat.  I still haven't mastered how to make it look pretty.  When you K2tog and there are 2 colors of yarns, I didn't know which I should work the stitch with

If anyone is interested, I wrote the pattern down and you can test it by sending me an email for the pattern called Skull Hat For A Cool Guy.

Day one of my vacation

Monday - Day one of my vacation:

Ahhh... I wanted to do some Fair Isle knitting in more than just one color for the chart.  So this is my first real trial of following someone's chart and doing Fair Isle knitting to create more of a picture on something.  I did alter the chart slightly and learned a couple of things.

This hat is for a baby just over 3 months old.

1.  I should try to stick close to the chart colors because my green is too pale.  It doesn't show the cute flowers with the white petals.

2.  I altered the chart up by the eye area.  The chart called for 2 colors, yellow and black.  I didn't want black where the sky should go so I used 3 colors of yarn to do the Fair Isle.  That was a first for me.

3.  I taught myself to do two handed color knitting.

If anyone is interested, I used US 8MM circular needles, US 8MM dpn's, CO was 63 stitches.  I created the hat pattern and have used the basic hat pattern several times now.  If I get enough feedback, I'll post the basic pattern.

I hope the picture is clickable.

Here is the link to the free chart that I used:  Sheep Chart

Were you a fan of the old Western Genre?

My son, Bill Proctor a.k.a Billy to me, has just started college and he did a presentation on Western Genre with a group of fellow students.  I thought it was pretty good, although I noted spelling errors LMAO. It was enjoyable seeing some of the pictures of my favorite western actors.  Hearing my son narrate the film was cool.  His wife is from Italy and everytime he pronounced a certain Italian director I had to grin because he said it with an Italian accent.  Please take a few minutes to watch his YouTube video. He complained only 4 people had seen it and says it was probably him checking on it 4 times LOL

Now what little girl or even a big girl like me wouldn't want to have this blanket on their bed!! I think it is so pretty and looks like it will be a big hit no matter what time of year you made this blanket. Thanks for sharing your picture Casey.

Remember to send me pictures of your large finished projects like these wonderful afghans and I'll post them on the blog.

Knitting added

You may notice I changed the name of the blog to include the word "Knit"

I've been interested in knitting for years and have no one around me to get advice from or to help me learn to knit so it's been a slow process for me.  I've decided that as I learn something new, (old to you experienced knitters) and if I create my own pattern, I'll be posting for "testers wanted" just like I do with crocheting.

Maybe some of you brave souls will be interested also in delving into knitting, as well as crocheting.  We can learn together.  Or maybe some of you very experienced knitters who can whip up a project in a day could test a pattern or two and supply information on what the cast-on stitch count would be for a larger hat.  Right now I'm into knitting hats for two babies that my co-workers have both just had within the past 3 months.  So if I have a pattern for a newborn baby, you might have a toddler or an adult that you want to work the pattern for and we can fill in the information to adjust the sizes.

I hope some of you will respond in comments if you are interested in participating!!!

Donna

Advice needed

I participated in a contest and my prize I chose was a small handheld Camcorder.  The kind that is small and flat like a cell phone.   I have no idea how to set it up so that I can make some video tutorials.  I mean, there is no one to hold it for me to tape myself from the view of the crocheter.  The only thing I can think of is to somehow hang it from my neck, hold very still and create the video.

Anyone have any ideas?  Plus how can I have it around my neck when there is no strap.

I was also thinking maybe if I could get a tshirt with a pocket, cut the pocket down a bit so that it is below the lense and then with it in my pocket possibly I could create a video?

All comments or suggestions would be great!

Donna

Do you ever find that you purchased some yarn you thought was so darned pretty in the store but couldn't ever use it because once you got it home it seemed ugly? Well maybe not ugly but you just couldn't find anything that seemed it would look great in crocheted with the oh so pretty yarn you just brought home?  Well this scarf is perfect for those varigated yarns.  Since it's the holidays maybe you have some varigated holiday colors of yarn you'd like to use up?

If you are currently testing a pattern for me, please don't ask to test this pattern.

Snow in Walton Kentucky

How is this snow storm that is going across the United States affecting you?

I tried to go to work today and couldn't make it out of the subdivision.  My truck was stuck in the street. I also may have ruined my SUV 4 wheel drive according to my husband or the 4 wheel drive isn't working like we thought when we bought the vehicle.  Boy I hope not.

So it looks like I'll be sitting at home and knitting today.  Anyone else having a snow day today?

Testers Found - Fox's Double Heart Knit Illusion Scarf

UPDATE TESTERS ARE: Thelma, Emanuela, Lavina, Aisha, Angel

YES I SAID KNIT !!!

I have never in my life created a knit pattern.  In fact, when I have tried using people's charts to do knit illusion I can't do it.  I can follow a written pattern but not their charts.  They were too confusing.  This made me sit down and create a chart pattern I felt that just about anyone can understand.  So I have applied the science of a taking a drawing on graph paper I designed of two staggered hearts and made it into a chart for knitting what I call a double heart illusion scarf pattern.  If you are unfamiliar with Illusion Knitting, you will be working the scarf using two contrasting colors of yarn which will just look like you are knitting a striped scarf however when you view the scarf at an angle you will see the true pattern of the double hearts.

So... I'm looking for some brave people who knit.  Right now, I'd like people that are familar with Knit Illusions and who knit at a steady speed who know for sure they can get the testing of this pattern for a scarf completed in the time frame allowed below. HOWEVER, if you feel you are comfortable doing this pattern from a chart, email me doing simple Knit and Purl stitches from a chart, feel free to email me.  I will be knitting the scarf at the same time as the testers so this will be quite interesting for me.

If you are currently testing a pattern for me, please don't ask to test this pattern.

When I find enough testers I go back and change the title of this posting from Testers Wanted to Testers Found. Before emailing me, please go back and check this link to see if the title has been changed. If the title has been changed, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not email me asking to test.

1. Must be a follower of this blog and a subscriber. Not a follower yet? Sign up. Let me know your follower name.

2. Must be able to finish testing by Saturday January 8th. (this is a guess. If the majority of testers finish early, I'll post the pattern and pictures earlier)

3. Must be able to send me a picture of your finished item attached to an email.

4. Must be able to send me errors of any kind you find in the pattern.

5. It'd be a plus but is not mandatory, if you were a member of Ravelry so you can add the project when the pattern opens up to everyone.

6. You can use 2 SOLID colors of yarn you'd like. They must be the same brand so that when you launder the scarf it will not warp from different yarn brands.

If you want to test, send me an email to the address below with your Follower name. Only the first so testers emailing me will receive the pattern to test. Please don't post a comment that you'd like to test. I can't send a copy of the pattern to a "comment." You have to email me as it states.

Kay's Star Blanket for Project Linus

Kay sent me these pictures of her blanket that she crocheted using my Fox's Star Square pattern.  The above pictures are clickable to get a better view. She said that the edging pattern is from Edie Eckman's book, Around the Corner Crochet Borders.

She is donating the blanket to Project Linus.  Such a very worthwhile cause and I know that whoever receives the blanket will love it.

I applaud you Kay, for crocheting with charity in mind.
