INSTRUCTIONS:

Blanket is worked in a spiral. Do not join rounds. Do not crochet over unused yarn.

Using color A ch 4, slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 4, counts as dc plus ch-1 sp, *(dc in ring, ch 1) repeat 5 total times, pull up loop of yarn, insert st holder, drop color A. (6 dc)

REMINDER - DO NOT JOIN ROUNDS

Round 2: Using color B slip st in ring, ch 4, *(dc in ring, ch 1) repeat 5 total times. (6 dc)

Round 3: Sk 1st dc of color A, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, ch 1, group made *(sk 1 st, 2 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1), repeat from * 4 total times; pull up loop, insert st holder in loop, drop current yarn.

Round 4: Pick up color A, tighten yarn slightly, sk 1st color B st, 2 dc in ch sp, ch 1, group made *(sk 1 st, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, ch 1) group made repeat from * 5 total times, **(sk 1 st, dc in next st, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, ch 1) group made repeat from ** 4 total times; pull up loop, insert st holder in loop, drop current yarn.

Round 5: Pick up color B, tighten yarn slightly, sk 1 st, 2 dc in sp, ch 1, *(sk 1st st of group, dc across group to ch sp, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, ch 1) repeat from * around to last group, pull up loop, insert st holder in loop, drop current yarn.

REPEAT ROUND BEGINS

Round 6: Pick up next color of yarn, tighten yarn slightly, *(sk 1st st of group, dc across group to ch sp, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, ch 1) repeat from * around to last group, pull up loop, insert st holder in loop, drop current yarn.

Round 7 thru completion of blanket - Repeat Round 6 continuing with pattern until blanket reaches desired size then follow instructions for finishing. I worked this blanket until I ran out of yarn and couldn't complete another round with what little yarn I had left.  To make this blanket fit a baby larger than a newborn, purchase 2 skeins of yarn of each color

NOTE:
As blanket grows larger, when you get to the last group of each round, instead of stopping, you can keep crocheting up to the point where you catch up with the loop for the next color and drop the current color. Just remember, when you resume with this dropped color of yarn, you must finish off this last group and place the usual 2 dc in the ch sp and a ch 1 before the round is actually complete.

FINISHING:
BEFORE BEGINNING THE LAST ROUND, COUNT EACH GROUP. YOU MUST HAVE THE SAME NUMBER OF STITCHES IN EACH GROUP. IF YOU HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE PATTERN, YOU WILL HAVE 11 GROUPS WITH THE SAME COUNT AND THE LAST GROUP NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED UP TO THE LAST 4 STITCHES BEFORE ENDING THE PATTERN.

On final round of color A continue pattern until you have 4 stitches left before the last ch sp, (hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next st, slip st in last st). Finish off.

On final round of color B continue pattern until you have 4 stitches left before the last ch sp, (hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next st, slip st in last st). Finish off.
