Testers Found - Fox's Baby Love Blankie

UPDATE - TESTERS ARE:  CASEY, ALIDA, GLORIA, JENNIFER, DEBORAH, SANDRA, GENEVIEVE, JANET, KATY, ANGEL, DENISE, DEBI, CINDY, VIOLA, ALEDRIA, JANET, SANDY, CATHIE, EDITH, SARI, SHIRLEY, STEPHANIE, NELL

About a year ago, if not more, I made a blanket resembling the one above and posted it on the blog.  I  received many emails regarding the pattern.  I hadn't written it down. Viola, one of my faithful testers finally convinced me that she wanted to make the blanket and wanted the pattern.  So I finally wrote it down over the past weeks.  The original was a nice light green and white.  As I was working the pattern I can not tell you how many times I got ahead of myself while watching tv and had to rip out rounds left and right.  So, having said that, if you have a lot of distractions, you will be ripping out many times.  If you have a lot going on, you will be ripping out many times.  The stitch counts must match exactly or the pattern will not work. You really have to pay attention so I'd say this is an Intermediate pattern.  Beginners - don't ask to test the pattern.

When I find enough testers I go back and change the title of this posting from Testers Wanted to Testers Found. Before emailing me, please go back and check this link to see if the title has been changed. If the title has been changed, PLEASE do not email me asking to test. If you are currently testing an item and I haven't received your picture yet as you can not ask to test this item.

1. Must be a follower of this blog and a subscriber.
2. Must be able to finish testing by Friday May 20, 2011
3. Must be able to send me a picture of your finished item attached to an email. People not following through and sending me a picture or not posting on Ravelry will no longer be able to test future patterns.
4. Must be able to send me errors of any kind you find in the pattern.
5. It is mandatory as of January 23, 2011 that all testers add their test projects on Ravelry after I post the link to the pattern. Once I post the pattern, you'll need to go back to Ravelry and link it to the proper pattern. If you posted your project ahead of time, it won't be linked to the pattern without using the exact name I called the pattern once it was posted. Anyway, believe me, I will be checking. If 10 people want to test, there should be 10 projects on Ravelry.
6. You can use whatever colors of yarn you'd like but the yarns should be 4 ply medium worsted weight. If you prefer a 3ply yarn, you will need to change the hook and your blanket will be a lot smaller. You will need 2 7oz skeins  for the center color, 2 7oz skeins of the white and about 50 yards of a contrasting color.  You will not use the entire amount of both skeins of each color but you will go over 1 skein and need partial amounts of the 2nd skeins.  Don't ask to test if you want to use varigated or stripped yarn as it will distract and not show how pretty this blanket really is.  I AM SERIOUS.
If you want to test, send me an email to the address below with your Follower name. Only the first people emailing me will receive the pattern to test. I respond to all requests. If you don't receive a response, send another email as your original email may have gone into spam.

Please don't post a comment that you'd like to test. I can't send a copy of the pattern to a "comment." You have to email me as it states. Don't send me a comment through the Google feed that you want to test. You must use the email address below.

Thank you to Marion, a.k.a. “thehatlady” on Ravelry for all of her help.  Her help has been invaluable.  Marion has supplied the chart below which is a cool way of reading charts.  Each square when read from right to left tells you how many of each color stitch to knit.  I think it’s a cool way of doing a chart.  This chart is only available in the .pdf version.

Additional thanks are sent out to all of the testers of this project.  I want to give special thanks to MarieAnge Brouillard a.ka. MariAngel on Ravelry as she was invaluable in helping me to pull together all the information the wonderful testers supplied.  She’s definitely a special lady in my book and I appreciate all of her help very much.

Here are the instructions to post a project on Ravelry

1. Click on the link below

2. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/diamonds-are-a-girls-best-friends-knit-hat

3. It takes you to the pattern page – you may need to log-in to Ravelry to see the “CAST ON” icon in step 4

4. Click on the "CAST ON" icon in the top right area

5. It will let you fill in the blanks, name your own name for the piece you worked. You can name it whatever you want. Example: Stars’s blah blah blah. It will let you rate the pattern also. So you enter all the information about your "project" like, did you like it, did you have to add a round of sc's to make it the right size, what yarn you used etc and then you save that. General notes for other people who will see it.

6. Then there is a tab so you can add your pictures of your square or blanket or multiple squares with the same pattern.

7. If you had already created your project on Ravelry before I posted the pattern, you will need to go to the link above – highlight and copy the BOLD name of the pattern that I named it. Then go to your project page and put in this name as the pattern name link.

It's really kind of easy.

There are two hats to be tested in the same pattern.  One for preemies and one for babies up to toddlers. You will be given 1 of 4 versions to work.  You are free to work more than one but your input will be expected on the version that you will be asked to work.  ie... preemie hat without roll brim, preemie 2 color hat with brim.  Get the drift?  Start thinking of embellishments as currently in the pattern there is a pompom and a bow.  I'm going to probably include a small flower also.  If you have a suggestion, email it to me also.

New Goal 1,000 squares

I'm pleased to report that we met the original goal of 500 squares and also the next level goal I set of 800.  The new goal is 1,000 squares by April 30th. We are around 800 now which will make about 10 blankets. Let's try to reach the 1,000 goal which will make 12 afghans for those in need.  I'm praying we will make it.  If we make the goal, we'll be doing a new charity drive in the future.

Please get your squares, booties, blankets etc. mailed into Online Angels as soon as you can.  I'll keep adding to the count as they are received.  Remember you MUST put a note in with your items with your email address if you expect to be emailed that your squares were received.  Don't forget the Presidential Awards you can earn but you must let Mary know you are interested in having her track your donations towards a Presidential Award.

MAIL YOUR SQUARE(S) TO THE ADDRESS BELOW:
Online Angels, Attn: SmoothFox, 36B Pine Drive, Pottsville, PA 17901

Please include your email address so that Mary can let you know your squares have been received.  Her email is the only notice you will receive.

Update: Do you want to test knitted hats?

I put out a request about a week ago and someone pointed out to me that they thought they were already on "the list".  Well, the original list was written in a steno pad months ago.  The stenopad eventually filled up and somehow was discarded by my husband.

I have the following people on the new list, which I have put into a spreadsheet on the old computer so I won't lose it.  Remember you are not under any obligation to test, you will never be forced to do any pattern you aren't interested in.  There are various sizes of the hats and you can pick your own colors and size that you want to work your project in.

I'll just send an email when your name comes up and if you want to opt in, you just email me that you are interested.  If you don't want to participate in a specific hat, that's okay too.  I'll just go on down the list of until I find enough people to test the hat.

REMEMBER - you must have a RAVELRY ACCOUNT so that you can post your project pictures to after you have completed testing.

If you don't see your name and you are interested in joining the NEW list to test knitted hats (mostly FairIsle stranded or Intarsia) please send me an email. SmoothFoxLover@yahoo.com  In your email I need your first and last name along you telling me that you do have a Ravelry account and it would be nice to know what your experience level is with knitting FairIsle and Intarsia.

Lisa's beautiful afghan

I received these great pictures from Lisa Wilson who wrote me an email regarding the pictures of her beautiful afghan.  She used one of my free patterns.  Click here for the pattern: SmoothFox's Granny Loves A Baby  Great job Lisa and I'm sure she will love it.

Here is her letter:

I made this afghan for a co-workers Aunt who was diagnosed with breast cancer. I loved the look of the squares and the color changes, and thought....hey I could just put bc ribbons on the four corners. I love the square pattern, it not only looks nice but its not hard at all ,to do... Thanks Donna for all your lovely patterns~

Do you want to test knit items

Please send me an email if you'd like to be on the list to test knitted hats etc.  Most of the patterns will be for stranded knit hats.  Maybe once I get more confidence, I'll branch out more but for now, it's strictly knit hats.

I won't be posting an open call for knitted items, at this time, as they are so few and far between.  However, I'm going to create a list from those that want to be included that I can draw from.

When I have a pattern to test as I do now, I'll email a few of the people on the list and ask if they'd like to test the item.  If they aren't up to the challenge, are busy or aren't interested, I'll work my way down the list until I have enough testers.

You will also be required to have a Ravelry account and be expected to post your project once I have posted the pattern.

So if you are interested, please send me an email and give me your first and last, experience level in knitting and the email address you want me to contact you at.

Testers Found - Spiral Round Granny Blanket

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POSTING BEFORE EMAILING ME TO TEST.

UPDATE: TESTERS ARE: ANGEL, JANET, MARY, DARLEAN, JACEY, MELISSA, DIANA, DAWN, DENISE, CATHY
This blanket caused me so many headache's when I was designing it.  I know, it looks so simple that it should have been the easiest of blankets to design.  I was trying to reinvent the wheel so to say and that never works.  I'll bet I had to rip it out and restart it about 15 times even when I had gotten it to be 2 feet wide.  However, now the pattern works like a charm.

When I find enough testers I will go back and change the title of this posting from Testers Wanted to Testers Found. Before emailing me, please go back and check this link to see if the title has been changed. If the title has been changed, PLEASE do not email me asking to test.

1. Must be a follower of this blog and a subscriber.
2. Must be able to finish testing by Saturday April 30, 2011
How high can we go!

I'm so excited to tell everyone that our goal of 500 squares has been met and we still have time left.  Let's see how high we can go!  It takes 80 6"x6" squares or 20 12"x12" squares to make one blanket for donation.  This said, I'm going to raise our goal to 800 squares.  That sounds like a nice round number.  We have 2 weeks or so left to get those squares in. before the end of April.  Will you please help us we meet the new higher goal?

Many people have asked for and received the patterns and said they will send in charity squares.  Won't you please set aside the time to get your squares to the Post Office?    Please help us make the angels smile at Online Angels to make even more blankets.

MAIL YOUR SQUARE(S) TO THE ADDRESS BELOW:
Online Angels,  Attn: SmoothFox, 36B Pine Drive,  Pottsville, PA 17901

Please include your email address so that Mary can let you know your squares have been received.

PS - Online Angels currently has a need for baby booties.  If you have a pair laying around or can crochet or knit a few pairs before the deadline, toss them into your package before mailing it.  Any pattern of baby booties will work.

BOOTIE CALL

BOOTIE CALL

BOOTIES AS IN BABY BOOTIES --- LOL

Mary over at Online Angels notified me of a need right now for Booties.  All sizes would be appreciated, Preemies, Newborns and 3 to 6 months size or 6 to 12 months. I'd say that the newborns and larger sizes would be in greatest need however, that is just my opinion.

Both knit and crochet booties are great, however, don't use wool or cotton.  If you're in a position to help by making a pair or two or more, Online Angels would greatly appreciate it.  There are a lot of needy babies out in the world!

Once you're ready to mail them - please send them to

Here are the instructions to post a project on Ravelry

1. Click on the link below

2. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/free-smoothfoxs-friends-square-12x12

3. It takes you to the pattern page – you may need to log-in to Ravelry to see the “Hook it” icon in step 4

4. Click on the "Hook it" icon in the top right area
